Loggerhead turtle comes ashore to nest on West Beach on Oak Island, NC
A loggerhead sea turtle came ashore in the 6000 block of West Beach in Oak Island, NC just before midnight on Friday, July 11, 2014 to lay her eggs before heading back out to sea. Just as she reached the high tide line, a black Ibis (I think that's what the bird is in the first image) landed about 30 feet away. These images were taken using a red filter after the turtle had completed her nesting and was heading back to the ocean. The red color was removed in post-processing to give more realistic coloration.
